The history of Little Joe’s Haircutters began in 1950 when Joe Lombardo began working for a barber shop in St.Andrea, Italy at the young age of 15. He learned all aspects of men’s hair cutting and went to work in Rome, Italy shortly after. In 1955 Joe came to America and began working as a barber for Hollywood Joe’s in Paterson. When people wanted young Joe to cut their hair they referred to him as Little Joe, hence the name Little Joe’s.
After working at Hollywood Joes for 2 years, Joe Lombardo decided to open his own barber shop in 1957. At the young age of 20; this was truly a challenge for Joe. But through hard work and perseverance, Little Joe’s became one of the most well known and successful barber shops around. Little Joe’s Barber shop was located at 100 Belmont Avenue and Joe recalls haircuts were $1.25 at that time. Joe’s brother Mario became a barber after being taught by him and remains a valuable part of Little Joe’s Haircutters today, 47 years later.
In 1963 Joe expanded once more and became a full service unisex hair salon for the entire family and moved to 345 Belmont Avenue, Haledon where he and his staff serviced the community for 33 years.
Joe Lombardo who is celebrating his 50th anniversary in business is enjoying his retirement in Florida and Italy. He resides in North Haledon with his wife Marcella. Joe has one son, two daughters and seven grandchildren. He would like to thank all of his customers for their continued patronage and support.
In 1985 Joe’s son, Joe began working with his father and continues to service the community in the tradition his father set forth. In 1996, Little Joe’s expanded once more to where it resides today at 845 Belmont Avenue, North Haledon, NJ.
